Ashby Canal Talk – Past, Present & Future

The Ashby Canal was completed in 1804 and served the coalfields of South Derbyshire and North West Leicestershire for many years. As the coal industry declined, so did the local environment and the fortunes of Ashby Canal.

Geoff Purseglove, previously Ashby Canal Project Officer for Leicestershire County Council, will trace the history of Ashby Canal, it’s decline, links with the coalfield, and the canal’s ongoing resurrection as a Gateway to the Heart of the Forest.

This talk is FREE to attend but capacity is limited. Please book your place by contacting blacktogreen@nationalforest.org or 01283 551211.
