Canal, Coal, Clay & Bricks

Join Ian Malcolm for a Black to Green Walk as part of the National Forest Walking Festival.

We will be starting at Donisthorpe Woodlands, which was once the most productive coal pit in the UK. We will then pass by the old station and brickworks to follow the former route of Ashby Canal to Oakthorpe pit, Willesley junction, continuing to Hicks Lodge and take the Newfields Trail back to Moira.

The route includes mainly good paths with some fields and possibly wet, rough areas. The route is approximately 5 miles and will include 8 stiles. Children welcome and dogs on leads.

Please book your place in advance as capacity is limited by emailing blacktogreen@nationalforest.org or call 01283 551211.
